Ntata una ugañ, onu ammẹ su ugañ ẹnnẹ ou
Oron proverbs voiced by Joshua Osung, with thanks for his contribution.
(I might eat a meat killed by a gun, but I do not love how a gun behaves)
Acrylic on canvas, 80 × 60 cm
This work reflects on the tension between benefit and principle. One may enjoy the meat hunted with a gun yet reject the weapon itself. The proverb warns of the dangers of violence, its consequences, and the illusion of control over tools that can easily turn against us.
Extending this lesson into friendship and trust, the painting suggests that bonds may exist even while principles diverge. At its heart, it asks how we navigate survival, loyalty, and ethics — and whether trust can endure when destruction is part of the bargain.
